SALISBURY CIVIC SOCIETY - EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES POLICY

1 DECLARATION OF INTENT

1.1 Salisbury Civic Society is committed to taking action to fight discrimination in every
aspect of its activities.

1.2 The aim of Salisbury Civic Society's equal opportunities policy is to ensure that no
member receives less favourable treatment on grounds of age, race, colour, ethnic or
national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, HIV antibody status,
AIDS or disability. Salisbury Civic Society will strive to redress any imbalance that may
become evident.

1.3 Salisbury Civic Society will work to maintain the objectives stated above.

1.4 The Executive Committee will review the content and effectiveness of the policy annually.

1.5 Salisbury Civic Society will monitor and review the composition of its Executive Committee
with the aim of promoting a broad-based representation.

2 THE SCOPE OF THIS POLICY

2.1 This policy applies to :

a. all members of Salisbury Civic Society.
b. all aspects of the activities of Salisbury Civic Society.

3 IMPLEMENTATION

3.1 In all its legal dealings Salisbury Civic Society will have due regard to the following and
all other relevant legislation :

a. Race Relation Act 1976.
b. Sex Discrimination Acts 1975 - 1985.
c. Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
d. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

3.2 Salisbury Civic Society is committed to ensuring equality of access to membership. The
Executive Committee will take any necessary action to counter any past discrimination
and to monitor the outcome. The Executive Committee will aim to ensure that no sector
of the community is denied access to membership on the grounds of age, race,
gender, disability, being a lesbian or gay man, marital status, ethnicity or religious
belief.

3.3 The Executive Committee will aim to ensure that, in its advertising and publicity, Salisbury
Civic Society will be presented as an organisation committed to promoting equality of
access to membership.

4 ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

4.1 The chair, together with all Executive Committee members of Salisbury Civic Society, will
manage, oversee and be responsible for the overall implementation of the equal
opportunities policy in their respective areas of activity.

4.2 All members have a duty to implement Salisbury Civic Society's equal opportunities
policy.

5 REVIEW

5.1 Salisbury Civic Society will monitor and review annually the effectiveness of this equal
opportunities policy.

6 INFORMATION

6.1 This document will be made available to all members of Salisbury Civic Society.
