Celebrating our Heritage Enhancing our Environment Shaping our Future

FUTURE HIGH STREETS FUND SALISBURY (Proposals for the development of the station forecourt and Fisherton Street)

As promised, we are letting members know how they can find out the details of the proposed major expenditure by Wiltshire Council on the railway station forecourt, and the Fisherton Gateway, using money from the government’s Future High Streets Fund.

The objectives of the FHSF are to increase vibrancy within the city centre, to support ‘experience’ visits, encourage return visits, and increase footfall and expenditure. It aims to enable existing and new businesses to thrive in the city and to draw in young people and encourage them to stay.   There is a need for Salisbury to redress the reputational damage from the nerve agent attack of 2018, the growth in online shopping and the further effects of the Covid pandemic.

This link gives access to the details, and also provides an opportunity to respond.

The Society will certainly be responding itself, and would welcome any comments from members towards that response. The link also gives access to two online events, on Wednesday March 16th and Monday March 21st, where questions can be asked about the proposals.

There will also be opportunities to discuss the proposals with members of the Wiltshire Council team, at public exhibitions in Salisbury Guildhall. These will be on:
Wednesday 30 March 2022 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
Thursday 7 April 2022 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm
In addition, printed copies of the consultation material are available at local libraries. The consultation runs until April 19th.
