Celebrating our Heritage Enhancing our Environment Shaping our Future

Salisbury is to become a Window Wanderland this autumn

Salisbury is to become a Window Wanderland this autumn – Salisbury BID and Wiltshire Creative are organising this unique art gallery trail to bring a little magic and light to the city as the nights get darker and they’re  looking for people and businesses to get involved!

Window Wanderland is a project for the whole community, started in Bristol in 2015 and is now seen across the country. This year it arrives in Salisbury for the first time kindly supported through funding from Wiltshire Council and event support from Salisbury City Council.

Louise Dancy, Take Part Director at Wiltshire Creative said: “We are delighted to have been awarded funding for Window Wanderland from the Salisbury Area Board to collaborate with residents and the business community of Salisbury to inspire and celebrate together as the nights draw in.

There is a rich diversity in our city and this project offers a great platform to celebrate just a bit of it, we hope this paves the way for future celebrations and exchanges of cultural traditions.”

Salisbury’s event will run from 4th to 7th November 2021, when windows across the city will be decorated with imaginative designs. It will celebrate the diversity in our city by drawing on the themes of Diwali, Festival of Lights of triumph over darkness, happiness and positivity. This event is being developed with the Nepalese Society of Salisbury to develop the displays as well as presenting an evening of cultural dancing at the Guildhall to launch the event.

Susi Mason, owner of Casa Fina and Salisbury BID Director, said: “Window Wanderland will be such an exciting project for Salisbury bringing the community together to celebrate positivity and hope and celebrating the diversity in our city.

The trail of illuminated windows will allow a safe flow of visitors to walk through the streets and will hopefully bring additional trade to our retail and hospitality businesses after a difficult period.

The trail comes about through the partnership working of Salisbury’s Vibrancy group. By working together we can aim higher when it comes to bringing events to the city that will boost business, entertain our residents and attract visitors.”

Schools, community groups and businesses across Salisbury are being encouraged to get involved in the free, fun event. There will be an official trail route but we would love as many people as possible across Salisbury to take part!

Businesses can participate by offering up their windows to host displays and can even create their own, if you are a school or part of a community group you can get involved by creating a window supported by our professional artists. Free workshops or resources are available.
